This film actually starts out with two friends standing out by a swingset and discussing the future. Jeep is a man who is completely infatuated with Charlie, the pregnant woman that is swinging on the swing before him. He tells her that he will be able to provide for her, and he wants to raise the baby with her. She does not seem overly thrilled about this possibility and kind of shrugs him off.

You are also quickly introduced to an overly aggressive archangel turned human named Michael (Paul Bettany). He has been sent to orchestrate the demise of the human race, but instead has decided to give the world another chance at survival. You see, unseen to the inhabitants of Earth, God has become displeased with mankind’s disobedience. He has decided to eradicate his creation, and instead of a flood he is sending an army of death dealing angels to do the job.

The salvation of the entire world rests with one child, the child that is inside of Charlie. Now, the end of the world is on the doorstep, and a group of people are held up inside of the business that Jeep’s father, Bob (Dennis Quaid) owns. Now there are leagues of angel possessed humans that are trying to kill Charlie and her baby, and consequently anyone that stands in their way.

Michael is one of those people, with the sole purpose of protecting the child that is growing inside of Charlie. He knows that the hope of mankind is this child and he will stop at nothing to ensure that come hell or high water nothing will harm it. This means that he will have to risk his eternal damnation for the sake of the humans who have forsaken him as well as God. It will also mean a battle of epic proportions with another angel army head.
