The number of crime related television series that have come up on various broadcasting networks has increased a lot. The sixth season of the show is expected to premiere on 22 September 2010 and so far the show has completes 5 seasons with a total of 114 episodes. The basic tagline of the show is to catch a criminal you have to think like one.

Criminal Minds is about a team of profilers from FBI’s BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit) which are called in by the various local police departments to help solve crimes which are of very violent nature and there are no clues regarding the criminal. The team employs the technique of profiling and uses victimology and psychological analysis to crack the case. The BAU is based in Quantico, Virgina.

The team of BAU consists of one FBI unit chief, four supervisory special agents, one SSA Media Liaison and a technician. Thomas Gibbson played the role of the unit chief in the first four seasons and most probably he would play the role in sixth season as well. The role was given to Derek Morgan in the fifth season. There are other members in the team and on the show which includes A.J. Cooke, Shemar Moore, Mandy Patinkin, Paget Brewster, Joe Mantegna, Lola Glaudini and Matthew Gray Gubler.

At around 14.89 million, Criminal Mind’s best viewer ship was for the season 4 and its best ranking was an impressive 11 for the same season. The first four series of the Criminal Mind have been released on DVD by CBS DVD in few areas.

The Criminal Minds has been nominated for a number of awards and has won some of them primarily because of its distinct theme among the crime series. Mark Manicna won the BMI TV Music award in 2008 and 2009, the show won ASCAP award for the top television series in 2006, 2007 and 2008, Young Artist Award in 2008 in the category of best performance in a T.V. series, besides also being nominated for various categories at Emmy awards and Motion Picture Sound Editors, USA, People’s Choice Awards USA and other awards.
