The Sony KDL32W550 0U Reviewed January 31, 2010
Everyone knows that Sony is a good brand name tv set, and the Sony KDL32W550 0U is one of the many models on the Bravia range. This is the top of the range and the “W” series consists of a 1920x1080p Full HD panel, which has now become a standard feature, but the “W” series was the first to use this technology.
This KDL32W550 0U model is an LCD TV of course and for this kind of top range tv set the price is very reasonable. It features 4 HDMI inputs, and Ethernet jack which allows the Applicast to work and connect to the internet. A USB which is able to handle video, music and photo files of all kinds, and whatever else you need it for!
100Hz Motionflow technology, together with engine imaging from the Bravia range makes for a brilliant, quality TV. Retailers are moving these KDL32W550 0U tv sets fast at really great prices and this is part of the charm of buying this top of the range tv set. Everyone wants one, because they know they are getting a good deal!
The KDL32W550 0U consists of a 32″ screen although it does not look as large as this because of the attractive glossy black bezel which frames it. They come packed with a protective film over all the parts which may get scratched. So one has to assume that these parts should be kept well protected! But this is the way of the world, even out cell phones come with these protective coverings and they get scratched eventually with use.
This is a compact 32″ tv with a relatively small footprint so if you are short on space, it may be ideal for your use. I think it is a great looking set, although I have seen some reviewers say that they prefer the looks of the 32E5500 model to the KDL32W550 0U. It is all a matter of taste really and if you think it looks good, you are the one who has to live with it.
Most Sony screens have a “Wega Gate” type menu, but the Sony KDL32W550 0U has done away with this for a more innovative user interface, much the same as the interface used by the Sony Playstation 3. This is a very neat concept and I really like it, however other people may prefer the more traditional menus. The menu is displayed with icons rather than words such as “color”, “contrast” etcetera, so they may take some getting used to.
It may take you time to get use to the menu, but at least you will have fun messing around. If you are technologically inclined, you won’t have issues but the older generation may not know what the hang is going on when they try to television set the contrast on the KDL32W550 0U. I would not hand this remote over to my 75 year old father to use. Hide it under the cushions in the couch and pretend you have lost it.
The KDL32W550 0U has a great video processor, and to be honest that is about all I really need to know. If you want more technical product information, you should be reading the specs elsewhere. I am a television set user, not a designer, all I look for is a great picture and good looks. As long as I can watch videos and DVD’s I am happy.
From one girl to another, this KDL32W550 0U tv set looks great with my decor, it works fine once you have mastered the icons on the menu. It is simple to dust and keep clean and it fills that empty corner in the left hand side of my room that was disturbing my Feng Shui balance.
