The Samsung UE65C8000 August 18, 2010

Taking a look at the Samsung UE65C8000 TV will reveal one of the finest offerings yet by this up-and-coming Korean consumer electronics maker. It’s the first LED (light emitting diode) TV to bring full 3-D viewing capability to such televisions, as a matter of fact. And even though it’s a 65 inch TV, it’s also one of the slimmest televisions on the market today.

While nobody would ever accuse this TV of being inexpensive at nearly 4400 British pounds, it might be of some comfort to know that it can be found online for about 600 pounds less than that. At any rate, it’s jam packed with features and functions that would justify the price, regardless. Samsung seems to have really grabbed hold of the big screen television market nowadays, by the way.

The UE65C8000 comes with Freeview HD, which is Samsung’s UK-specific tuning filter that can allow the television to access more than 100 high-quality satellite channels beamed only into the UK. It also has what Samsung calls “Internet-at-home” capability, which combines with the Freeview feature to deliver a Luxia-line television that’s backlit on its display screen by LEDs rather than fluorescent tubing.

When a high definition TV can be backlit using LEDs rather than fluorescent tubes, the result is a super-slim casing, often less than 30 mm thick around the critical display screen area. In fact, Samsung is known for having the slimmest-looking televisions on the market, and this particular model is no exception, sitting on an attractive stand wrapped in a handsome metallic-looking casing.

On-screen display resolution comes in at 1920 by 1080 pixels (1080p), which means that the television is a real high definition unit rather than one that’s “HD-ready.” It also comes with Samsung’s proprietary Motion Plus 200 HZ motion engine, which controls the action quite capably, ensuring that even 3D imagery looks crisp and clean, with no blurring or smearing whatsoever.

Of course, with a television at this price point, there’ll be more than a few functions and features, including a great many different ways to connect a wide variety of electronic components to the unit. There are at least four HDMI input ports, and Samsung has included what it calls “Audio Return Channel technology” as well. Ethernet, scart and USB 2.0 ports are also a part of the lineup featured on the TV.

As well, there’s nothing low-performance about this Samsung’s surround sound audio system, either. It has a high-quality digital noise filter and Dolby Digital Plus, ensuring that the sound put out by the TV is first rate across the board. Of course, any television can benefit from a connection to the quality home theater system, so keep that in mind.

The Samsung UE65C8000 is one of the Korean consumer electronics maker’s finest offerings to date. At 65 inches, it is a truly big TV and it’s doubly impressive because it delivers images in real 3-D, to boot. It won’t be an inexpensive purchase, at 4400 British pounds list price, but a lucky buyer will be getting a huge amount of features and functions, which will greatly help reduce the pain on the pocketbook.
