Kanye West Incident Is Typical Of Our Society September 28, 2009

Even those not interested in entertainment news will have heard about or seen Kanye West gatecrashing the stage during the 2009 MTV video awards in the middle of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech.

Now I’m no fan of Taylor (or the MTV video awards for that matter), but come on – it was her big moment. Have we lost all respect and decorum as a society? Apparently so, after looking through the lyrics that Kanye uses in his songs. Now having done that, and felt dirty for hours afterwards by doing so, I’m not sure why I would expect anything less from him.

This leads me on to another point – since when did pop music become such a lifeless joke? Most of the stuff in the charts is lacking in substance. Frankly, it’s all crap. I just can’t stand to listen to it anymore. It probably says something about our culture that we are mostly aware of how shallow it all is, but we just accept it anyway. All most people want is pithy, nonsensical platitudes in our music and copies of copies until the end of their days.

Yet that’s another tangent altogether, so let’s get back to Kanye the moronic egomaniac. Should we expect better? Probably not~ In a world where idiocy is rewarded with airplay and publicity, more of the same can be expected. Fame is sought after at all costs even should it be someone elses five minutes of fame that you’re taking. Why should we even care what these people say, sing or think about? There have mostly done nothing that warrants us valuing their opinion.

I know what you’re thinking – who cares what I say or do? Who I am to be giving my opinion?? Well, any ideas that present themselves in my little brain tend to find themselves emerging as a rant or rave – even if I’m not particularly qualified to comment on the issue.

Maybe I should start writing pop music…
