Outstanding information about a few of the greatest films that you may have never heard of is right here. Mamma Mia – Sophie is about to get married. Her single mom has invited her two best all-time friends to the wedding. Sophie has invited three men from her mothers past, eager to find her father, and have him walk her down the aisle. Old romances are reborn during the chaotic day before the marriage.
Casino – Sam Rothstein has worked his way through the mob ranks and now runs the casino that his Chicago company owns. When mafia strong arm Nicky Santoro arrives in town, Sam pleads with him to keep a low profile. Business is good, and his services aren’t really needed. Nicky just can’t help himself, and he starts banging heads. Now Sam’s peace world gets turned completely upside down.
Rock My World – This is a pretty good comedy set in England (however shot and funded in Canada) that went directly to video in the U.S. although is far more involving than its theatrical fate could show. We see an aristocratic British couple rent their house to a rock band and end up posing as the butler and chef while the eccentric team ultimately shows up. Observing the interplay create between these tremendously variant generations and lifestyles is fun and the music is astoundingly catchy. Cast includes Peter O’Toole, Joan Plowright, Alicia Silverstone, Jairnz Woolvett, Keram Malicki-Sanchez, Christopher Bolton, and Lochlyn Munro. 106 minutes, 2002.
Trading Mom – It’s about three siblings who couldn’t stand their mom. Spacek cast a spell which makes her-and all memory of her evaporate. Here is a flat and lifeless tale with poor production values. Cast includes Sissy Spacek, Anna Chlumsky, Aaron Michael Metchik, Asher Metchik, Maureen Stapleton, and Merritt Yohnka. 82 minutes, 1994.
China Moon – Small-town policeman Harris lusts after unhappily wedded Stowe in this moody film noir. A few nice twirls, although production is more than a tad similar to the better Body Heat. This is a directorial debut for Bailey, more generally known as a top cinematographer. Cast includes Madeline Stowe, Charles Dance, Benicio Del Taro, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Roger Aaron Brown, and Patricia Healy. 99 minutes, 1994.
Holiday in Mexico – Involving, well cast lyrical comedy of baby girl of ambassador dropping for professional musician. Cast includes Walter Pidgeon, Ilona Massey, Roddy McDowall, Jose Iturbi, Xavier Cugat, and Jane Powell. 127 minutes, 1946.
The House of Yes – On a stormy day in 1983, a youthful man brings his fiancee home to meet his penniless Washington, D.C, family, containing his crazy twin sis, Jackie-O, whose fantasies in Jacqueline Kennedy have lengthened to the point of reinacting the JFK assassination-with live bullets. Well made black comedy, based on the stage production by Wendy MacLeod. Cast includes Parker Posey, Josh Harnilton, Tori Spelling, Freddie Prinze, Jr., Genevieve Bujold, and Rachael Leigh Cook. 90 minutes, 1997.
Metropolitan – Conventional comedy, packed with sarcasm, is set throughout Christmas season, with hermit Clements drawn into small gang of buddies, and out of his shell. Cast includes Carolyn Farina, Edward Clements, Christopher Eigeman, Taylor Nichols, Allison Rutledge-Parisi, Dylan Hundley, Isabel Gillies, Bryan Leder, Can Kempe, and Elizabeth Thompson. 98 minutes, 1990.
