If you’re looking for a great action comedy flick from the eighties and you’ve already seen every single thing with Arnold and Stallone, maybe you should check out Blind Fury. This movie is really the epitome of what made eighties action flicks so much fun. It’s goofy, light hearted, but with a good story, great action, and a really clever gimmick that makes the whole movie very different from many of the other action flicks that came out at the time. We put it on our must see movie downloads list for the next time you want to see a unique action movie while at the same time one that really touches on everything that made action comedy flicks so great back in the nineteen eighties.
The story follows a Vietnam war veteran who was abandoned by his old buddy during a bad firefight. He was left behind and wound up going blind. He was taken in by a south Vietnamese village where he was taught to use a samurai sword to defend himself. He’s now returned to the United States and is seeking out the man who left him behind, not to take revenge, but to forgive his old friend and reconcile with him.
Along the way, Hauer adopts his old friend’s son for the week, taking him from Miami, Florida to Las Vegas, Nevada in an attempt to reunite the boy with his father. He gets in more than enough fights on their quest across the country, making for some really inventive, cool stuff that utilizes the lead character’s blindness as a great angle for interesting fights.
Hauer really has to compete for the audience’s attention alongside the rest of the cast, who are all priceless. Slag is really a big part of what makes the cast so funny. Slag, played by Randall Tex Cobb, is one of the all time funniest eighties badguys. The way he meets his come uppance is really fitting and will leave you with a smile on your face.
The movie is really one of the best of the eighties in terms of action flicks. It really captures what the era was all about. Along the way, there’s also some really good storytelling as the film deals with issues of friendship and abandonment.
Ninja legend Sho Kosugi shows up towards the end for really no reason whatsoever, except to get Sho Kosugi in there. He plays a hired sword who arrives in the US from Japan in order to fight Rutger Hauer just so we can get a great fight scene in there between Hauer and a true legend of Ninja themed action movies.
Two of the best badguys in the movie are the pair of redneck brothers who serve as the movie’s comic relief.
It really is too bad that they don’t really make movies like this anymore, but we can at least enjoy these movies with movie downloads. It’s not one of the most well known of the eighties action flicks, but it’s really one of the very best of the era. Funny, exciting, imaginative and fun.
