The American Film Institute promoted a list of the top 50 actors from American films back in 1999. These are the actors from the golden era of Hollywood, the ones that began it all. While various of today’s actors may have transcended their talent, they are even so always going to be remembered.

Doug’s First Movie – The superstar of Television’s Doug is characterized in this weak, mechanical fable, made entirely for kids. Laid-back preteen Doug tries to spare an animal in need clash with his hope to take his girl friend to the school dance. This movie was made as a direct-to-video production. Voices of Thomas McHugh, Fred Newman, Chris Phillips, Constance Shulman, Doug Preis, and Alice Playten. (97 minutes, 1999)

Each Dawn I Die – Correspondent Cagney is framed, and sent to the penitentiary where he meets a tough inmate, Raft. There is exceptional acting all around. Cagney hits a white-hot summit with his part, however the last half of film gets to be outrageously unbelievable. Music score by Max Steiner. Cast includes James Cagney, George Raft, George Bancroft, Jane Bryan, Maxie Rosenbloom, Stanley Ridges, Louis Jean Heydt, Abner Biberman, John Wray, Victor Jory, and Thurston Chamber. No Man of Her Own – Pretentious drama based on Cornell Woolrich story of Helen Ferguson (Stanwyck) assuming another’s identity and becoming part of a fmaily. Later in the movie she is being blackmailed by her ex-boyfriend. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, John Lund, Jane Cowl, Phyllis Thaxter, and Richard Denning. (98 minutes, 1950)

Adios Amigo – Odd western comedy, written, produced, and directed by Williamson, who as well plays a role in the film along with con guy Pryor. There is no sex or brutality in this harmless flick, but it just doesn’t quite work. Cast includes Fred Williamson, Richard Pryor, Thalmus Rasulala, James Brown, and Robert Phillips. Directed by Fred Williams (1975-Comedy 87 minutes rated PG)

Big Trouble in Little China – Buddy Blowhard trucker Russell finds himself at large in Chinatown, while a friend’s fiance is abducted right in front of his eyes. High tech Indiana Jones fashion venture has huge tongue-in-cheek conduct, however everything else in reference to it is immense, too including Russell’s John Wayne swagger. Outstanding electric music score. The cast includes Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall, Dennis Dun, James Hong, Champ Wong, and Kate Burton. (99 minutes, 1986)

Happy Gilmore – Hockey player Happy Gilmore finds his slap shot power translates into 400 yard plus drives in golf. Needing money to help his grandma save her home, he is going to try pro golf. His putting is as poor as his driving is good, so he has a lot to learn. Overcoming all odds, Happy wins the tour championship and now can save grandma’s home.
