Diggstown: Friendly yam in regards to a con-artist just sprung from detention center sets his sights on a boxing match with boxer Gossett because he need to make a big paycheck. The 2 megastars are extremely good, even if the script is contrived. Cast includes James Woods, Louis Gossett, Jr., Bruce Dern, Oliver Platt, Heather Graham, Randall “Tex” Cobb, Thomas Wilson Brown, Duane Davis, Willie Green, and George D. Wallace. (97 minutes, 1992)

Sign of the Times: A punchy Prince film shot in Rotterdam and Minnesota, characteristics thirteen numbers, some overhead photography and lots of bump and grind from both genders. Stolen to some degree by megastar drummer Sheila E. Cast includes Prince, Sheila E., Sheena Easton, Dr. Fink, Mike Weaver, Levi Seacer Jr., Wally Safford, Gregory Allen Brooks, and Boni Boyer. (85 minutes, 1987)

Scandalous John: A Disney comedy Western chronicling what occurs when older, lovably ornery rancher Keith refuses to sell his land to a developer. Keith’s wonderful performance as a contemporary Don Quixote gives this one a lift. Cast includes Brian Keith, Michele Carey, Rick Lenz, Harry Morgan, and Simon Oakland. (113 minutes, 1970)

The Last Shot: Amusing charade, empowered by a real tale, telling the story of an FBI man (Baldwin) who makes believe to produce a film so he can trap a mobster with ties to the Teamsters union. Baldwin starts to like his “role” as a movie producer, as he turns his idea into reality. Cast includes Matthew Broderick, Alec Baldwin, Toni Collette, Tony Shalhoub, Calista Flockhart, Tim Blake Nelson, Buck Henry, Ray Liotta, James Rebhorn, Jon Polito, and Pat Morita. (93 minutes, 2004)

Liar Liar: Fletcher Reede is a hard working lawyer who is constantly disappointing his wonderful young son. Eventually, before blowing out the candles at his birthday, Max makes his wish. He wants his father to not be able to lie for one full day. The results are absolutely hilarious.

Metroland: Chris Bale, an easy going wedded gentleman, is visited by his oldest buddy, a vagabond poet, who convinces him to reflect on his Bohemian nights in late ’60s Paris and query the value of his life in London suburbia. Adrian Hodges adjusted Julian Bames’ novel. Cast includes Christian Bale, Emily Watson, Lee Ross, Elsa Zylberstein, Rufus, Jonathan Aris, Ifan Meredith, Amanda Ryan, and John Wood. (97 minutes, 1998)

After Life: This is a beautifully informed story of case workers at a train station between the heavens who help the recently departed pick a lone minute from their pasts to live inside forever. This is a calm, poetic assessment of life, death, and memory, filled with soft humor and blessedly free of some feel-excellent bromides. Cast includes Aarata, Erika Oda, Susuma Terajirna, Taketoshi Naito, Kyoko Kagawa, Kei Tani, Takashi Naito, and Yusuke lseya. (118 minutes, 1998)

Exit Wounds: Orin Boyd is a cop who doesn’t follow the rules. He has saved the Vice President of the US, but he didn’t follow orders, so he is sent to Detroit’s precinct 21, its worst area. With his new partner George, they set out to clean up the drug problems in the 21st. When they do, they find a lot of dirty cops are involved.

Good Morning Miss Dove: For a few generations, a small town spinster schoolteacher has felt and helped condition lives of her learners. Now hospitalized, her past is exposed through flashbacks. Movie theaters deal. Cast includes Jennifer Jones, Robert Pile, Kipp Hamilton, Robert Douglas, Ditch Connors, Mary Wickes, and Richard Deacon. (107 minutes, 1955)
