Disney’s Charge Card – Hot Or Not? May 29, 2010

After studying the fine print concerning the Disney Visa Charge card, at the bottom of the online application article, I realized they offer a single “Dream Dollar” per $100 in net acquisitions. I must say that its not really a whacking great deal but it comes as no actual shock either – this is a commonplace offer among credit card issuers.

That is merely a 1% refund and as I’m confident you are well aware, there are quite a lot of alternative credit cards offering this level of refund. They did not exactly market this well, but there is little to shout about, is there?

The Gains
Appearing that they only give a 1% rebate, I was expecting there would be some alternative gains to replace and make up for the lack of returns. While it’s a fact there are some gains to be had with the card, I do not feel they are overly impressive. For example, they say it offers a 10% off at “choice eating locations” at Disneyland, but after examining the fine print, evidently this doesn’t apply to Disney World (which is where many people go).

For example, they say it provides a 10% off at “choice dinner places” at Disneyland, but upon examining the small print, apparently this doesn’t apply to Disney World (which is where many people go). The one gain I really loved was the totally free stroller rentals – fantastic for smaller kids, but again, this only applies to Disneyland unfortunately.

And the Bottom Line
It is not that Disney credit card is unappealing, it’s just that the particular rewards may not make sense for everybody. I must say though the APR appears good, so I applaud them for implementing that.

If you live in California and frequent Disneyland rather than Disney World, then this credit card could quite well be a smart choice since that’s where most of the theme park benefits appear to apply. If not, I don’t really see the point in applying for the Disney Rewards Visa since it merely gives you 1% back on your spending.

Unless of course you simply love the amazing card designs, that is!
